Well, hello August. If I’m being honest, I’d have to say that August is my least favorite month. We go back to school and we’re never ready. It’s SO hot here. So hot. But…BUT…we do celebrate the birthday of two of my favorite fellas, so I guess it evens out. One of those fellas will celebrate his 40th birthday and the other will turn 14…and start high school. Sniff. Sniff. [Read more…]
Where has June gone?!? I feel like I say this every month, but really I can tell you where it’s gone: Vacation Bible School, Little Kids Camp, soccer camp, basketball practice, basketball games, haircuts, dentist appointments, etc. Basically I’ve spent the month of June as a glorified taxi driver. Anybody else?!?
Seriously though, I wouldn’t have it any other way. With one entering into high school and morphing into a man, I’m daily reminded that these days are fleeting. July promises to be much of the same, but with a few family getaways that I’m really looking forward to. Oh, and family pictures…but we’ll keep that between us. Our boys will NOT be thrilled with family pictures. Onward to this month’s menu plan…
Well…we made it through May. Barely. School is out now…Hallelujah! We are gearing up for a GREAT summer around here. I sure hope you are as well. There are camps to attend, Vacation Bible Schools to plan, pools to swim in, family to visit, and so much more. We LOVE summer around here!

One area that I realized I’ve dropped the ball with is cooking. For whatever reason, it just always seems simpler for me to just cook supper. So, last month I decided to issue a challenge to our older two boys. They were given the task of planning the menu, cooking the meal, and cleaning up the kitchen after dinner. I’m pleased to report that our oldest has completed the task. (Our middle son will have his chance next week, but as I’m writing this he has not gone yet.)
Well, hello March. March is kind of like no man’s land to me. It’s not still winter, but it’s not quite spring. Although, if you live in my neck of the woods, it feels like spring has sprung. Trees and flowers are blooming. The grass is turning green. My middle son is wearing shorts…wait, he does this year round. I guess that’s not a clear indicator of spring.
Oh December, we meet again. December and May seem to be my nemesis. By the end of both of these months, I’ll usually end up on the floor in a puddle of tears. And please know, I do not cry. Last year, this was me the weekend before Christmas. I think at this point I had been to 19 Christmas events by the Saturday before Christmas. 19. [Read more…]

Well, hello November! I’m so glad you’re here. This post is being brought to you by good ideas, like having your children manage your cash budget for eating out, quotes by readers, and freezer cooking.
Let’s begin with my children managing our eating out budget. Several months ago, in an effort to get our children to understand a few things about a cash budget, we decided to turn over the cash for eating out. It has gone great! In fact, I’d say the amount of times my children ask to go to Sonic has gone from once a day to once a week. I call that progress, people! [Read more…]
