Over Spring Break, my boys, my friend, her children, and I headed to Texas. If anyone is counting, that’s three 13 year olds, a 10 year old, a 7 year old, and two ahem…middle aged women in my van. Oh, and of the children, there was only one girl. But then, we met our friends at Six Flags. They have four boys. So, that did not help the boy to girl ratio either. Bless her. She was a trooper.
The drive from our town to Six Flags over Texas was about 7 1/2 hours. Not once did we hear, “How much longer?”. You know what we did hear??
“What’s for supper?”
“How much longer til we eat again?”
“Are you going to eat that?”
Knowing this might be the case with this many boys in tow, we decided to make a game out of spring break. My friend’s husband made us a scorecard for burgers and each time we ate one we would rank the burgers and the other things that they had at the restaurant. I think the favorite burger on our trip came from In-and-Out Burger. We do not have these in Memphis, but I think it’s safe to say that we were all fans of the burgers!
What about you? Do you have any fun things that you do on road trips? I must admit, I have traveled with crockpot, I have had a scavenger hunt in the car, but I have NEVER had a burger contest. Grab your copy below (click on the image) and have your own BETWEEN THE BUN CONTEST. Hey, you don’t even have to be traveling. You could use this in your own hometown.
In case you’re wondering what our favorite burgers are in our hometown, Memphis, Tennessee, here they are in a
Top 5 List.
I’ll start from the bottom and work my way up.
5. Tops BBQ
Yes, Tops is known for their BBQ, but they have a delicious burger and slaw.
4. Slider Inn
Slider Inn is a cute little place with a large variety of sliders. You can go traditional or totally weird (but totally good!). The nice thing about sliders is that you can share them.
Huey’s is iconic Memphis. I’d suggest the downtown location. While you’re there, shoot a toothpick through a straw onto the ceiling. It’s tradition.
2. Memphis Mojo
Yum, yum, yum. This place is delish. You can get all sorts of things here, but for the perfect lunch or dinner, I’d suggest just a cheeseburger and some pickle chips. You will not regret this choice!
And drum roll please for our favorite burger in Memphis…
Dyer’s is a family favorite because they have all the bests…burgers, fries, onion rings, Rootbeer floats, milkshakes…all the good things. It’s also downtown and the atmosphere is hard to beat. Even if we are going for something fancy downtown, we still might eat at Dyer’s, because truthfully, we just aren’t that fancy at our core.
What are your favorite burger places in your travels or in your hometown?? I’d love to hear about it. I might even take my scorecard in to rank it…who knows?!?
